Christmas Hymns
Some of my favourites
Here are some of my favourite or most beloved Christmas hymns. Perhaps you could listen to one a day during this Advent season! (And cycle back around to your favourites!)
O Come, All Ye Faithful
Triumphant and melodic.
O Come, O Come Emmanuel
This hymn aches with longing and hope.
It Came Upon a Midnight Clear
This one is so piercingly beautiful.
Silent Night
A classic, so gentle that it could even be a lullaby, but so true.
Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence
This one is a gem I found recently. The tune is so majestic and the words pierce me with an ache for something greater than myself.
The First Noel
A classic. What more could I say?
In the Bleak Midwinter
Originally a poem, and disarming in its simplicity— but oh so meaningful.
O Little Town of Bethlehem
I love this one…
Joy to the World
Such explosive, powerful joy! “Joy to the world, the Lord is come!/ Let earth receive her King!”
Once in Royal David‘s City
It’s meant for children, but even so it’s a beautifully mild and gentle hymn for those days when you feel like giving up.
Amidst all the festivities, remember the birth of Jesus Christ, which is the reason for all this joy! And if this Christmas season is hard for you, trust in the Lord and He will deliver. Keep on praying and waiting on Him alone.

What a beautiful list! I love so many of those. Hark! The Herald Angels Sing and Mary Did you Know? are also great ones. Also the Huron Carol. I learned that one about the time I learned Let All Mortal Flesh, and now I always think of them together. :)
Ahhh! I love all of these! Such a great little list! I particularly love "Mary Did you Know!"
